General information

I'm the head of Life Science group at the Center for Industrial Mathematics, and the head of MALDI Imaging Lab at Departments of Mathematics and Biochemistry, both at the University of Bremen. Additionally, I'm the research director of the spin-off SCiLS and a visiting researcher at University of California - San Diego, currently at Dorrestein Lab.

  • Life Science research group develops computational methods for mass spectrometry, in particular for imaging mass spectrometry. The group collaborates with research centers and companies in Europe and USA solving challenges in biology, medicine, microbiology, and plant science.
  • MALDI Imaging Lab is an interdisciplinary lab with the mission to facilitate interdisciplinary research at the interface of mathematics, bioinformatics, and biochemistry.
  • SCiLS is a spin-off which develops and markets software solutions for data analysis in life sciences, in particular, SCiLS Lab, the software for analysis and interpretation of MALDI-imaging data.

Additionally, I'm the coordinator of the FP7 HEALTH project 3D-MASSOMICS (2012-2015) on statistical methods for analysis of 3D imaging mass spectrometry data, uniting 8 partners from 6 countries, a guest editor of PLOS Computational Biology editing the collection “About My Lab” on scientific management, and a founding organizer of Bremen Mass Spectrometry Seminar.
