Logo Projekt Modeling, Simulation and Optimization of Multi-Frequency Induction HardeningModeling, Simulation and Optimization of Multi-Frequency Induction Hardening

The aim of the project is the modeling, simulation and optimization of multi-frequency hardening for gears made of steel. From industrial viewpoint one major task is the development of a software tool which allows for a detailed, workpiece related specification of the machine during the project planning phase. On the other hand it should be possible to compute optimal process parameters for industrial application in the process chain.

The project team in ZeTem simulates the thermomechanical effects due to the steel phase transitions during quenching. Additionally, the effects of unsecure data for the simulation will be investigated.

Logo Projekt DFG-SPP 1480: Thermomechanical distortion in drilling and milling complex componentsDFG-SPP 1480: Thermomechanical distortion in drilling and milling complex components

In this project, a model for the prediction of the thermoelastic deformations appearing during cutting processes in complex structural components and their related geometric failures is developed. The model includes the time dependent contact from component and cutting tool, as well as the thermo-mechanic FEM-simulation for the process, which should be valid for both the continuous (drilling) and the discontinuous (milling) cutting processes.

Logo Projekt Micro Cold Forming - Subproject A3: Material accumulationMicro Cold Forming - Subproject A3: Material accumulation

Biogenic ceramic composites, where biopolymers are embedded in a ceramic matrix, achieve mechanical properties whose quality is far superior to those of the starting products and have minimum material consumption under physiological conditions. In this area, nature is considerably more versatile and finds integral, multifunctional material solutions which cannot yet be realised with present-day technical materials (e.g. mother-of-pearl, bones).
