Former WG Numerics

Administration: Prof. Dr. Angelika Bunse-Gerstner

Up to 2017, the working group numerics worked primary on the field of numerical linear algebra and had dealt mainly with the solution of numerical problems of large dimensional linear systems, which occur in particular with applications of electrical engineering and with climate and ocean models. Main issues of the work have been the development, analysis and testing of numerical simulation processes, which are motivated by application problems from the industry are research facilities, which are not affiliated with mathematics. The attention laid on the development and analysis of processes, which are especially efficient, by capitalizing special problem-immanent structures.

The working group held contact to different national and international research partners: the local Institut für Theoretische Elektrotechnik und Mikroelektronik ITEM (Institute for theoretical electrical engineering and microelectronics, Prof. Dr. Rainer Laur), to MARUM (Geosystem Modeling Group), and to the Alfred-Wegener-Institut for Polar and Marine Research at Bremerhaven (Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Hiller). Other long lasting partnerships existed with the University of Reading in England (Prof. Dr. Nancy Nichols) and with the University of Havanna (Prof. Dr. Valia Gurerra).
