Liebe Thesianerinnen,

vom 1.-4. März 2001 wird in Uppsala, Schweden, eine
Europäische Konferenz für Promotionsstudenten und
-studentinnen, die EURODOC 2001, stattfinden. Organisiert wird die
Veranstaltung von der dortigen Uni, der Schwedischen
Promotionsstudentenvereinigung (also dem Gegenstück zu Thesis
e.V.) und der Uppsala Student Union. Reise- und
Übernachtungskosten tragen die Veranstalter, für
Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten ist bei rechtzeitiger Anmeldung
gesorgt.

Da ein Thema/Ziel der Konferenz auch die Förderung der
Gleichstellung der weiblichen und männlichen
Promotionsstudierenden ist, sind die Veranstalter bestrebt, den
Frauenanteil der Teilnehmenden zu erhöhen.  Zu diesem Zweck
wurden von den Organisatoren in Schweden von den nationalen
Promotionsstudentenvereinigungen, zu denen Thesis quasi in Vertretung
der Bundesrepublik Deutschland gehört, jeweils zwei Vertreter,
nämlich ein männliches und ein weibliches Mitglied
eingeladen.

Sollte ich keiner Geschlechtsumwandlung bis März unterliegen,
werde ich als Bundesbeauftrager für Internationale Kooperation an
der Konferenz als männliches Mitglied teilnehmen. Ein weibliches
Thesis-Mitglied mit Reisefieber, vorzugsweise einem Faible für
Skandinavien, hat sich allerdings bis dato noch nicht gefunden, um den
Part der (weiblichen) Deutschland-Vertreterin zu übernehmen.

Daher wende ich mich - auf der Suche nach solchen Wesen - an Euch, um
Euch zu einer Teilnahme bzw. einer kurzen E-Mail an mich aufzufordern.
Bewerbungs-Deadline ist der 5.2.2001(!).

  European Conference for Doctoral Students, Uppsala, 1-4 March 2001

In connection with the meeting of the Ministers for Education and
Science within the European Union in Uppsala from 1 March through 4
March 2001, Uppsala University, Sweden's Doctoral Students, and the
Uppsala Student Union will organize a European conference for doctoral
students, Eurodoc 2001.

The overall aim of the conference is to stimulate an increase in the
international mobility of doctoral students within the EU. The
preliminary themes of the conference are Research Schools,
internationalization, supervision, equality between men and women,
and social and ethnic diversity. One or several prominent lecturers
will be connected with each theme. Activities will be conducted both
in the form of lectures and in the form of workshops.

Two persons from your organization are hereby invited to participate
in Eurodoc 2001 in Uppsala, 1-4 March. An important aim of the
conference is to promote equality between men and women at
universities. Therefore we ask you to register one male and one female
participant from your organization.

Conditions for Participants
The two participants should prepare an oral presentation in English
(c. 10 minutes) of doctoral studies in their own country and
participate with a poster in English in a poster session. The
presentation (in rich text format) should reach the organizers of
Eurodoc 2001 by 20 February, in order to become part of the
documentation of Eurodoc 2001.  Please send the presentation to the

organizers will pay for a round trip by air to Stockholm.  In
addition, the organizers will pay for three nights' accommodation in
twin- bedded rooms, and for lunches and dinners during the conference.

The deadline for registration is 5 February 2001. Please note that this
web page is not avaliable via our homepage.

Travel
The organizers of Eurodoc 2001 will pay for a round trip to Stockholm
for two participants from your organization. When you have registered
for the conference via our web site, the travel agency Nyman & Schultz
will contact you by e-mail or telephone to book flight tickets. The
tickets will then be sent to you by mail. Conference participants will
pay for the transportation between Arlanda Airport and Uppsala
themselves (train 80 SEK or bus 75 SEK).

Accommodation
During the conference 1-4 March you will be accommodated in
twin-bedded rooms at the Basic Hotel, which is located near the
Uppsala city centre.

Registration on Arrival
On arrival, participants should register at the Basic Hotel on
Thursday, 1 March 2001, between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Miscellaneous
If more than two persons from your organization would like to
participate in the conference, there will be a conference fee of 1,000
SEK per extra person, to be paid in cash at the registration on
arrival at the Basic Hotel on Thursday, 1 March 2001. The fee covers
lunches and dinners during the conference. Please note that the
organizers will not make travel and accommodation arrangements for
these persons; they must book flight tickets and hotel rooms on their
